Koji Sakano

Bass 1

Koji Sakano (he/him), baritone, is a baritone based in Los Angeles.

He began singing at age nine, entering the American Boychoir School as a boy soprano. There, he sang under Fernando Malvar-Ruiz and Fred Meads. In his five years there, he was fortunate enough to participate in sixteen tours, both domestic and international, and numerous performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and London Philharmonic.

Koji holds a B.M. in Choral Music from the University of Southern California (USC). At USC, Koji studied early music voice with Jennie Kampani, jazz voice with Katie Thiroux, and classical voice with Mary Mattei-Scheibe.

Stemming from a passion for vocal chamber music, in 2022, Koji co-founded the octet exilio to perform unperformed and underperformed music. In the 2024-25 season he was selected as a Voces8 Scholar, and he deepened his understanding of this idiom. In Los Angeles, he sings with both exilio and Tonality.

When not singing, Koji serves as the Chorus Manager for the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC).
