Miguel Chicas

Miguel Chicas is a graduate of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (BCCM) with a Bachelor's in Music Education and Vocal Performance.  Here, he studied under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Talberg, choral director of the Bob Cole Chamber Choir. In 2016, they won the champion title of “Choir of the World” from the Eisteddfodd choral festival.  


In the summers of 2014 and 2015, he worked as a tenor section leader with the Idyllwild Summer Arts Choral Festival. During this time, Mr. Chicas sang in the Summer Arts Choir under the direction of Dr. Joseph Modica and Lori-Marie Rios. 


Mr. Chicas is a choir director in the Irvine Unified School District,  teaching middle school choral music at Beacon Park K-8 School. Additionally, he is an Elementary Music Teacher delivering vocal instruction to 4-6th grade students at Beacon Park K-8 School, Cypress Village, and Eastshore Elementary. In addition, Mr. Chicas supports the  Visual and Performing Arts Department as an Educational Technology Mentor.  Through this position, he has the opportunity to explore digital music and enjoys finding creative ways to include technology in the music classroom. 

In 2022, Mr. Chicas received the California Choral Directors Association Early Career Choral Director of the Year. Additionally, the 2020 IUSD Elementary Teacher of Promise Award. 


Currently, he performs as a guest conductor and tenor soloist throughout Orange and Los Angeles County, where he has worked with the Donald Bren Elementary Honor Choir, Grammy Award Nominee Josh Groban in his Stages tour, Stages: Summer tour, and An Intimate Evening with Josh Groban. Recently, he has performed in The Who's Peter Townsend's rock opera, Quadrophenia, starring Alfie Boe, Billy Idol, and Peter Townsend.
